About Pam

Pam had an auto-immune disorder called Dermatomyositis. It is a cousin to Lupus and Scleroderma. She needed an autologous stem-cell transplant (cells from her own body) that cost $100,000. Every day she did not receive treatment it was another day the disease was able to do more damage to her body. She was almost completely paralyzed. But on November 24, 2008 she receieved an autologous stem-cell transplant that stopped the progress of the disease. In fact, the doctors have stated that the disease was wiped out completely.

Pam's birthday Yesterday

Yesterday was Pam's birthday! :-) We celebrated it by having our home-health nurse, Candus, over along with her daughter and Joe (Candus' friend). Joe is an awesome rib cooker. He prepared a stack of ribs like you wouldn't believe. I bought the cake at Krogers (chocolate of course!). It was quite a meal. We wheeled Pam out to the dining room where we all were. After all, she was the main attraction on her birthday!! The cards were read, Happy Birthday was sung and the cake was eaten (well...not all of it). We had a great time.

2-19-10 (Scalp Infection still a problem)

Hi Friends and Family!

It has been a while since my last entry regarding Pam’s progress.

Pam is still bed-ridden. Our home-health nurse (Candus) continues to do a fabulous job taking care of Pam’s daily medical needs. Candus has noticed, along with Pam’s physical therapist that her muscles appear to be getting softer. It is ever so slight, but these are the comments we are getting from our professionals.

1-11-10 (Pam holding steady)

Hi Friends and Family,

Just a quick update:

Pam's scalp is beginning to look better. Our home-health-nurse, Candus, continues to work on it getting off the dead areas. She covers her head every morning with a medicinal oil then slowly peels off any dead layers. It is quite a process...and at times painful for Pam.

12-12-09 (Better these past few days)

Hi Friends and Family,

I want to wish you a wonderful Christmas season. I have bought a few presents, but need to get a few more. God has been good. Last Christmas, we were in Chicago in a hospital with Pam after her autologous stem-cell transplant, remember that? This Christmas, it looks like we are going to be able to be home. Three cheers!
